Quarterly Credit Union and Building Society Performance Statistics

The latest APRA Quarterly Credit Union and Building Society Performance Statistics have some interesting features:

  • The cost-to-income ratio for credit unions for the twelve months to 31 March 2009 was 78.2 per cent. For building societies, the ratio was 73.9 per cent.
  • Total assets for credit unions were $45.8 billion as at 31 March 2009, an increase of 10.1 per cent over the year. Total assets for building societies were $21.3 billion, a decrease of 0.7 per cent.
  • Total shareholders' equity as at 31 March 2009 was $3.8 billion for credit unions, an increase of 1.5 per cent over the year. The comparable figure for building societies was $1.6 billion, a decrease of 5.1 per cent.
