Treasury’s view of credit unions and building societies

The full text of the presentation by Jim Murphy, Executive Director, Markets Group, Australian Treasury to the recent Abacus Conference has been released (here).

He covers a wide range of policy and regulatory issues.

Having regard to current events, his question: “are credit unions and building societies destined to remain in the shadow of the banks, or can you make your organisations a more dynamic force in banking?” is particularly relevant.
